Tanoshimaru Shuzo was established in 2006 as a production subsidiary of Sapporo Breweries in Kurume. Applying barley expertise honed through beer making, it distils Hokkaido barley with subsoil water of the Minou range (one of Japan's hundred famous waters) into a shochu with a fruity, apple-and-banana nose. It has taken the grand prize twice and gold four times at the Fukuoka Regional Taxation Bureau appraisal.
