Chiyoizumi Shuzosho, founded in 1948 in Miyako's Karimata district, was a small village kura beloved by its neighbours. It rested its stills in 2013 and closed in 2018 — the first awamori distillery to close since Okinawa's reversion — but part of its remaining spirit has been revived in limited bottlings through the Awamori Soko treasured-stock project.
