Mizuho Shuzo, founded in 1848 in the Torihori quarter of Shuri — one of the royal Shuri Sanka — is the oldest surviving kura of the old capital. Under its creed that kusu is Okinawa's treasure, it also looks forward: the ONERUM rum from island sugarcane, the ORI-GiN craft gin, original yeast research, and Japan's pioneering awamori umeshu since 1971.
