The Okinawa Prefectural Distillery Cooperative was formed in September 1976 by all 46 of the prefecture's awamori makers. It buys members' awamori and ages it long for stable shipment beyond Okinawa — its Umi no Kuni, a ten-year kusu created for the 1987 Kaiho national games, is the flagship, with a fifteen-year edition above it.
