Amakusa Shuzo, founded in 1899, is the only shochu kura in the Amakusa islands. It began as an imo shochu house, switched to rice and barley in the late Showa period — then fourth-generation head Yutaka Hirashita brought it home, reviving the founding sweet-potato label Ike no Tsuyu.
