Fuchita Shuzojo, re-founded in 1878 on the banks of the Kuma River, took the grand honour prize at Japan's first national liquor fair in 1926 and was chosen to present its shochu to Emperor Showa on his 1931 visit to Kumamoto. Reports indicate the house is currently not in operation.
