Since 1804 — 水上村, Kumamoto
Matsushita Jozojo began in 1804, when first-generation Jihei took up shochu making in the Sagara domain's Iwano village — making it the oldest kura of Kuma shochu, now in its fourteenth generation. At the source of the Kuma River in Mizukami, it brews from the valley's people, water and rice, its history bottled plainly in the label Saikogura, the oldest kura.
